COMP Soccer vs. Recreational Soccer

Comp Soccer - Gold Country United - GCU

Gold Country United (GCU) is our "comp" soccer program and is intended for players between the ages of 8-18 who are looking for a higher level of coaching and competition.  Parents of children hoping to join a comp team should first fill out the interest form. If there are current teams which have openings in the spring we will notify parents and put the coach in touch with those parents. New teams will use Team Formation Day in the spring to try to form teams with available players. ALL teams are open for new players at fall tryouts which occur every year in late May. Games:

GCU teams play league games on weekends with the typical season being 5 home games in Grass Valley and 5 away games with other Comp teams. Most games are on Saturdays but occasionally Sunday games are necessary. Division opponents vary by season but are usually clubs within the greater Sacramento area from Auburn to Elk Grove.  Comp teams may choose to participate in additional play events, including tournaments and this is decided by the coach and team.  Games are played rain or shine.

Development and Values

Comp soccer is the next step of individual development where kids continue their individual progression alongside and within the context of the team. They work with qualified and licensed soccer coaches who have obtained a minimum of a US Soccer D-License. Our coaches are committed to providing a whole-child development environment where they can learn and grow both on and off the soccer pitch.
